Specializing in the creation of fine Japanese pastries, Mikawaya (PRONOUNCED "ME-KAH-WAH-YA") has been in operation since 1910. The 100 year-old, family-run business is named after the founder's hometown in the luscious Mikawa province of Japan--the 'ya' (meaning 'store' in Japanese) was later added to make the name Mikawaya.

Frances Hashimoto, the youngest grand niece of the founder, Ryuzaburo Hashimoto, is the President and CEO of Mikawaya. As president, Frances holds the key to one of Mikawaya's best kept secrets- the recipe for the Mochi dough. The recipe, which has been in the family for more than three generations, has been adapted to work with new, state-of-the-art technology used by Mikawaya. Now everyone can enjoy the handmade taste of this special snack-right from their own freezer section.
